Structure of disc plough: A disc plough(plow) is a farming implement used to break up and turn over the soil. It consists of a series of metal discs mounted on a horizontal axis, which are attached to a frame and pulled by a tractor or other vehicle. The discs are spaced closely together and arranged in a V-shaped configuration, with the leading edge of the discs angled slightly downward.

The main function of a disc plough is to loosen and aerate the soil, allowing water, air, and nutrients to penetrate more easily. This helps to promote healthy plant growth and improve crop yields. The disc plough can also be used to incorporate organic matter into the soil, such as compost or animal manure, which can further improve soil health.

The working process of a disc plough involves pulling the implement through the soil using a tractor or other vehicle. The discs rotate as they move through the soil, cutting through the ground and breaking up clumps of soil. The V-shaped configuration of the discs allows the implement to dig down into the soil and turn it over, creating a furrow that can be used to plant seeds or seedlings.

Types of disc ploughs:

  1. Mounted disc ploughs, which have the discs mounted on a slanted frame, allowing them to dig deeper into the soil;
  2. Tandem disc ploughs, which have two sets of discs mounted on a single frame for increased digging depth;
  3. Variable-width disc ploughs, which can be adjusted to change the width of the furrow being created.

The advantages of using a disc plough:

  • Increased efficiency and productivity, as the implement can cover a large area in a short amount of time.
  • Help to improve soil health and fertility, and can be used in a variety of soil types and conditions.
  • Relatively easy to operate and maintain, making them a popular choice among farmers and gardeners.
